About
The short version
I’m Alex Nguyen, a TCU alumnus with a degree in advertising and public relations.
If you’re still curious
First and foremost, I’m a writer. I never found math and science interesting—and notoriously underperformed at both—so I stumbled onto the “starving artist” path. It all started with a high school journalism course and, over the years, morphed into a career in strategic communications.
For a year, I was a copywriter for an ad agency, where I served over 19 clients ranging from bakeries to breweries. Most recently, I had a stint in public relations at Red Bull, where I wrote press materials and pitched events to news media.
If I’m not writing, I’m eating. As a foodie—or gourmand, if I feel pretentious—I’m always on the lookout for what’s good. Fine dining is great, but I gravitate towards simple food, executed well. There is nothing quite like fresh bread and butter, or a deftly formed, incredibly fresh, piece of nigiri sushi.
On the flip-side, I cook too. Through the ritualistic viewing of the Food Network, when it was still good, and an ongoing penchant to hoard cookbooks, I learned how to feed myself and others. In fact, I debated culinary school, but ultimately vetoed the idea—it wasn’t my money getting me through college.
Other than that, I’m just an average 23-year-old guy. I love cars, sports, retaining useless knowledge of pop culture, listening to music that doesn’t suck and reading authors who are bigger smartasses than I am.
That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
